Candidates who appeared for this prestigious national-level examination for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship/Assistant Professorship in Science subjects can now access their qualifying status. Vacancy Details

The Joint CSIR-UGC NET exam does not have a fixed number of vacancies like traditional government jobs. Instead, it determines eligibility for the following positions:

Eligibility Criteria

Education & Experience

• Qualification: M.Sc. or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ BS-4 years/ BE/ B.Tech/ B.Pharma/ MBBS with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD candidates).
• Subjects: Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
• Final Year Students: Candidates enrolled for M.Sc. or having completed 10+2+3 years of the above qualifying examination are also eligible to apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category.

Age Limit

• For JRF: Maximum 28 years (relaxation applicable for SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Female candidates as per government norms).
• For Lectureship (LS): There is no upper age limit for applying for Lectureship.

Salary / Pay Scale

Candidates qualifying for the JRF will receive a stipend as per the following structure:

• JRF Stipend: ₹37,000/- per month + HRA for the first two years.
• SRF (Senior Research Fellowship): After two years, based on performance evaluation, the stipend is increased to ₹42,000/- per month + HRA for the remaining tenure.
• Lectureship: Successful candidates are eligible for the pay scales of Assistant Professor as per the 7th Pay Commission in various institutions.

The following fees were applicable during the registration process for the December 2025 session:

• General / EWS: ₹1100/-
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): ₹550/-
• SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender: ₹275/-

Selection Process

The selection of candidates for the Joint CSIR-UGC NET is based on a single-stage competitive process:

• CBT Examination: A Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of objective-type multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
• Merit List: Two separate merit lists are prepared: one for JRF-NET and another for Lectureship-NET.
• Normalization: For subjects conducted in multiple shifts, NTA scores (Percentile) are used for result preparation.
